Eligibility

Eligibility Criteria for Admission to the Two-Year B.Ed. Program (Dibrugarh University)

To apply for the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) program at Namrup College of Teacher Education, affiliated with Dibrugarh University, candidates must meet the following eligibility requirements:

Academic Qualifications:

  • Candidates must have secured at least 50% aggregate marks in:
    • Bachelor’s degree (General or Honours) or
    • Master’s degree in Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities, or Commerce or
    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology with specialization in Science and Mathematics with at least 55% marks.
  • The degree must be obtained from Dibrugarh University or any other university recognized by it.

Note: Candidates who have 50% or more in Honours/Major subjects but less than 50% aggregate marks in the overall Bachelor’s degree are not eligible for admission. A minimum of 50% aggregate marks across all subjects is mandatory.

Entrance Test Requirement:

  • Applicants must appear for and qualify the B.Ed. Common Entrance Test (B.Ed. CET) conducted by Dibrugarh University for the respective academic session.

Relaxation

Relaxation of Marks for B.Ed. Admission

A relaxation of 5% in the qualifying examination marks may be granted to candidates under the following categories:

  • Reserved Category Candidates: Applicants belonging to SC, ST, OBC, MOBC, or PwD (Persons with Disabilities) categories are eligible for 5% relaxation.
  • In-service Teachers: Candidates with a minimum of five years of teaching experience in a school recognized by the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (up to Class 10 level).

Important Note: A candidate can avail the benefit of relaxation under only one category. Multiple relaxations cannot be combined.

Reservation

Seat Reservation Policy for B.Ed. Admission

Namrup College of Teacher Education follows the reservation norms prescribed by Dibrugarh University for admission to the B.Ed. program.

  • 85% of total seats are reserved for candidates who have completed their qualifying Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from institutions affiliated with Dibrugarh University.
  • Statutory Reservation Categories:
    • Scheduled Caste (SC): 7%
    • Scheduled Tribe (Plains) – ST(P): 10%
    • Scheduled Tribe (Hills) – ST(H): 5%
    • Other Backward Classes / MOBC: 15%
    • Physically Challenged (PwD): 3%

Note: Candidates with minimal visual disability or similar minor impairments that do not significantly affect functional ability are not eligible for consideration under the PwD reserved category.

Selection Criteria

Selection Criteria for B.Ed. Admission

Admission to the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) program at any institution affiliated with or permitted by Dibrugarh University will be based on the following selection components:

  • B.Ed. Common Entrance Test (B.Ed. CET):
    The university will conduct a centralized entrance test carrying a maximum of 70 marks.
  • Career Performance:
    This component carries a maximum of 30 marks. The score is calculated by taking 10% of the percentage of marks obtained in each of the following examinations:

    • High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC)
    • Higher Secondary (H.S.)
    • Bachelor’s Degree and/or Master’s Degree

    Example: If a candidate secures 53% in their Bachelor’s Degree (Major/Aggregate), they will earn 5.3 marks under the career performance component.

Note: Candidates who qualify in the B.Ed. CET must apply directly to the institution(s) of their choice. The final selection will be made by the respective colleges based on the combined scores of the Entrance Test and Career Performance.

Other Conditions

Enrollment and Conduct Guidelines for B.Ed. Students

To maintain academic integrity and ensure commitment to the B.Ed. program, all students are required to follow the guidelines below:

  • Exclusive Enrollment: A B.Ed. student must not be enrolled in any other full-time academic program offered by this or any other university/institution during the course of study.

    Violation of this rule will result in automatic cancellation of B.Ed. admission.

  • Employment Restriction: Students are not permitted to engage in any form of employment during regular teaching hours. The B.Ed. program is full-time and requires full participation in academic and practicum activities.
